I am going through another Beth Moore study (she's great, by the way - I highly recommend her stuff - even for guys!), and she talked about Christ's sacrifice this way:
Jesus not only died for you, He died INSTEAD of you.
Wow. I guess I intellectually knew that, but I had never pondered it in quite that way. Instead of me. That puts a whole new spin on Christ's sacrifice.

ReplyDeleteTo expand on Jonathan's earlier military analogy, Christ's dying instead of me would be like every time a bullet was headed my way another soldier would voluntarily step in between me and the bullet and die so that I might continue.
Where my analogy breaks down is that Jesus didn't just die for me (or instead of me), He rose again so that I could have eternal life and be alive in God. So a soldier giving his life for me on the field of battle only answers the "avoidance" of death and not the birth into life.
Man...I think I'm rambling.
